Weight loss and weight management are, unfortunately, topics that are often stigmatized; however, managing a healthy weight ensures you’re on the right track for optimum health throughout your lifetime.

At Sylacauga OB/GYN, we understand the difficulties surrounding weight management. That’s why we offer a comprehensive and compassionate weight loss program as part of our weight loss clinic for those looking to control their weight (and who haven’t experienced success with other programs).

Sylacauga OB/GYN’s Weight Loss Program

Sylacauga OB/GYN’s weight loss program is not affiliated with any franchise. After extensive research,
we have created our own proprietary program, which has seen tremendous success since its inception in 2014.

As part of the program, you’ll receive:

  • A complete nutritional assessment
  • Assistance with energy and appetite
  • Monthly full-body composition analysis
  • A metabolic laboratory profile
  • An exercise regimen built around your goals
  • Monthly and weekly check-ins and support throughout the program
  • And more!

The program is laid out over a 12-month period, during which we’ll provide check-ins and personalized guidance based on your progress.

Your First Visit

During your first visit, we’ll assess your nutrition, perform a full panel of labs and a body composition analysis (which we do monthly to show progress and areas for improvement). We use InBody technology, a gold standard for body composition analysis.

We’ll then discuss your current medications, and if necessary, we’ll prescribe a lipo-enzymatic B-12 injection and additional energy boosters and appetite suppressants. We recommend all patients receive weekly intramuscular shots to assist with energy and fat burning. However, we will tailor all medication recommendations to your unique needs and goals.

We’ll also discuss your nutrition and create a diet plan. Generally, these plans are low-carb; however, depending on your needs, we’ll create a plan that works for you
and your lifestyle.

Finally, we’ll assess your current activity levels and suggest an exercise regimen that encourages weight loss and sustained energy.

Monthly and Weekly Check-Ins

We want you to be successful. That’s why we offer weekly check-ins to assess your vitals, your weight, administer our injection, and provide emotional support during the first few months of your participation in the weight loss program.

At three month intervals, we will review your progress and determine what, if any, changes need to be made to your specific program.

Weight loss is unique to each individual, and we want to be there for you. All parts of our program can be tailored to your specific needs, and our trained staff will provide compassionate, proactive guidance for your continued success every step of the way.

Weight Loss Clinic FAQs

Can anybody come to the Weight Loss Clinic?

The Weight Loss Clinic is offered to patients ages 18 to 65 years old.

When is the Weight Loss Clinic open?

We offer the following times for visits:

  • Tuesday 8:30am-12 noon — shots only
  • Wednesday 12-5:00pm — new patients, follow-up visits, shots
  • Friday 12-4:00pm — new patients, follow-up visits, shots

What medications do you use in your clinic?

Our main goal is to educate about proper nutrition to help you make a lifestyle change. We have some medical options to help you do this for a short time if you wish to use them. We recommend everybody get weekly intramuscular shots that are comprised of vitamin B12 and other lipoenzymes to help with energy and fat burning. We dispense phentermine (Adapex) as an appetite suppressant. We also prescribe metformin (Glucophage), Topamax, and Wellbutrin, in some instances. We will tailor the program to your personal needs and goals after taking a thorough medical history.

I have heard that weight loss medications are bad for your heart. So if I have heart problems or high blood pressure, can I still participate?

We do not recommend Adapex for someone with a history of heart attack or in cases of uncontrolled high blood pressure. However, there are other medications that we can use to help with appetite control, and you are still a candidate to get the intramuscular B12/lipo injections weekly. We check your blood pressure weekly to monitor this as well.

I have tried Weight Watchers, calorie counting, and other restrictive diets in the past and failed. How is this program any different?

We encourage a combination of a low carbohydrate diet with intermittent fasting/time-restricted eating, as well as adequate sleep, exercise, and management of stress. Multiple studies have proven that low-calorie diets are ineffective in the long-term. Making a lifestyle change that cuts back on carbohydrates, starches, and sugars has been shown to be effective for long-term weight loss. It also has been shown to help reduce, or even prevent, many other health problems.

How long can I participate in the weight loss program?

We will tailor the program to fit your individual needs. Adapex has been approved by the FDA for short term use, ideally 12 weeks.

I can’t come weekly to get the shots. Can I take them home with me?

Unfortunately, this is not safe and is a liability. We also want to monitor your blood pressure weekly, especially if you are taking Adapex, so we cannot allow patients to buy the shots and self-administer at home at this time.
